SHORT TAKES Worldwide Smartphone Sales to End-Users by Operating System in 2Q10 (Thousands of Units) iPhone Goes to the Emergency Room While doctors accessing medi- cal information online is not new, a few doctors claim that if asked they would choose a smartphone over a stethoscope. “You’ve got a whole medical library right in the palm of your hand,” says Meredith Ressi with Manhattan Research, a health-care market research firm that studies doctors’ use of technology. “It’s really transfor- mative.” It is being reported that the ability to access data in this way is “changing the way doctors practice medicine.” According to a recent study, more than 70 percent of doctors in the U.S. now use ad- vanced phones or digital assistants and of those 80 percent say the devices are essential to their work. Cameron Diaz Most Dangerous Celebrity in Cyberspace In its fourth annual report of the riskiest celebrities, McAfee, Inc. names Cameron Diaz to the top spot, followed by Julia Roberts, Jessica Biel (last year’s number one), Gisele Bundchen and Brad Pitt to round out the top five. According to McAfee, cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are in fact laden with malicious software including: spyware, adware, spam, phishing, and viruses. The report was published the same day the company announced that Intel was acquiring it for approximately $7.68 billion. “WAVE HAS NOT SEEN THE USER ADOPTION, we would have liked.
