The sweeping staircase was an elaboration on the one that existed at the Bel-Air location where exteriors were shot, and the final version built for the film takes on a much more Art Deco flavor. Production Designer Bill Malley is best known for The Exorcist, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Art Direction in 1974. Other films designed by Malley include The Star Chamber (1983), Protocol (1984) and VisionQuest (1985), as well as a wide array of TV movies and series in the 1980s-90s. The drawing is the work of David J. Negron, one of the truely prolific illustrators in modern film history. Negron painted illustrations, drew storyboards and created poster designs for a wide array of major films over his 50-year career. His work illustrated Doctor Doolittle (1967, Hello, Dolly! (1969) Jurassic Park (1993), Back to the Future III (1990) and Star Trek (1979), and film fans from the time will remember the dynamic posters he designed for Kidnapped (1971), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), King Kong (1978) and Last Action Hero (1993). Outside of his work for the entertainment industry, Negron is recognized as a fine artist in his own right, working in oils in a style reminicent of Degas and Winslow Homer. His work can be found in the collections of Steven Spielberg, Faye Dunaway, Richard Zanuck, Times Mirror and Bill Gates.
