direction, which also seemed appropriate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Ms. Marvel. I implemented the research into the drawings with figures wearing a variety of costumes. It ended up making the illustrations feel grounded, warm and entertaining. Christopher and I explored many versions of various parts of this space. Oftentimes, I find it helpful to get things into full color to best evaluate the moment we are trying to create. The Djinn Realm Work Fellow Illustrator Emmanuel Shiu was tasked to imagine the Noor dimension and come up with ideas of what it could be like. The Production Designer asked him to blue sky something otherworldly but at the same time, allow it to be grounded in a level of reality. Emmanuel went through many different sketches and played a lot with color and light. He decided to push the color and shapes just enough that it would feel both familiar but otherworldly. As he progressed, he started integrating fractal patterns into the rock and landscape. It's not extremely obvious at first sight but it's one of those things that helps the viewer feel the otherworldly nature without hitting them over the head with it. As this set progressed, the directors were also very interested in seeing how some Islamic references, particularly through shapes, could be infused into the designs. This can be seen particularly in the interior scenes with the central element resembling a muqarnas surrounded by pools of Noor energy. Along with Emmanuel, I was joined by Yujin Choo and Laurent Ben-Mimoun in developing the universe of Ms. Marvel. Some of their many contributions are included below.
