I was so excited reading the scripts and seeing evolution of the characters and planning ways to show what each one was going through. Hair is a fantastic way to tell a story and when you have such wonderful compelling writing and acting, it's very important that our work in the hair trailer supports that. Christopher Storer, the creator of FX's The Bear, has not only made a fantastic show but along with Joanna Calo, Tyson Bidner, Josh Senior, Carrie Holt de Lama and Cooper Wehde, they have created a workspace that is safe to share ideas, supportive and allows all departments to work to our highest levels. I knew this season was going to be a big one, and a super fun challenge, and myself and my team (best team ever!) comprised of my 56 • THE ARTISAN WINTER 2024 key Angela Brasinton, Melanie Shaw and John Bivens (barber) were totally pumped and up for it. We had the best energy going from Season 1 and everyone brought it back plus more! I was also so lucky to have Department Head Make- up Ignacia Soto-Aguilar as my partner in creating these looks as not only is she a brilliant make-up artist, she's just the best to work with. It's important to share an aesthetic and have a great relationship with our counterparts, and having worked together previously, we were able to fall into an immediate rhythm and that's crucial for this project as we shoot at a pace that reflects what you see on screen. Add in the impeccable taste of costume designer Courtney Wheeler and it's the perfect recipe for the looks. I knew going into Season 2 we wanted to keep everyone close to how we met them in season one while showing some subtle changes. In Season 1, Carmy, played by the amazing Jeremy Allen White, kept his hair sweaty and wet, he was constantly working in the kitchen so he needed to be hot and sweaty. Going into Season 2, it's more about the construction leading up to the opening of the restaurant and getting into his personal life, so there was not a need for constant sweat. During our initial meeting for Season 2, we talked about less sweat, but still keeping with his signature tousled style. Doing an undone look like his requires a great shape to the haircut as your foundation; if the haircut is there, then anything you do to it will look cool. For his daily styling, I start with damp hair and I use Tecuane Esperanza scalp tonic, Bumble and bumble surf spray and I diffuse with my Dyson. The Bear HAIR CHEF'S KISS FX's
