We exhibited live and by Zoom thanks (once again) to enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers. Participation in these events is inspiring, energizing, and a wonderful way to meet members and see friends you haven't gotten to work with in a bit … and if you have been wanting to access some barbering techniques, this was the day to show up! We welcomed companies and individuals who demonstrated their products and skills and answered questions from the membership. Our first presenter was Jayson Fernandez: master barber and education leader representing the Paul Mitchell School in Pasadena. Jayson showed us some clipper techniques, including a lineup/edge up on his model's hairline while also demonstrating ways to use Paul Mitchell products such as Spray Wax and Tea Tree Gel. Paul Mitchell is also putting together a unique crossover barbering class for our members to get their hours and education toward your barbering license. Up next was a Zoom presentation by Mario from Prevention Disinfection. Prevention focuses on non-toxic disinfection sprays and wipes. The key ingredient is hydrogen peroxide which kills germs and bacteria without the caustic odor, skin irritation, or harmful inhalants. Ahh Virtue. Known for its healing line of products, yes even the styling products. A dynamic duo—Lily James and Eduardo Mendez—showed off the Virtue line of sulfate, paraben, phthalate, synthetic color and dye-free products. They showed us how to layer their products (i.e., hair cocktails) for protection and hold without a sticky or heavy result. The Virtue products are devised using patented alpha keratin protein from human sources to actually heal our hair with no protein buildup. Every time you use any of the products, you are healing your hair. And on top of all that, Virtue products are also gluten-free, cruelty-free, and Vegan! Virtue offers an affiliate program … check it out. WezTeck's inventors and owners Alex Palmer and Wes Brown were next up showing us their thoughtful barbering accessories. This small upstart is poised to shake up and revolutionize the barber industry. They have created tools such as easy-to-use Durags and curved wavy hair brushes. The star of their line though is their set of adjustable clipper blades, the WezTeck One Blade. WezTeck offers an affiliate program for artists who wish to transcend the ordinary! Janine and Cassette Jarman from Curl Cult spoke about their salon texturizing and soft perm service that doesn't damage the hair or the planet! They demonstrated groundbreaking rods and wraps … including a braid perm. Nationally renowned celebrity hair stylist Janine is the self- proclaimed "Perm Queen" and will be launching the first-ever Protein Perm in salons nationwide. Become a Curl Cult Pro! Perms are back people! Neurosurgeon Luke Macyszyn MD from The Disk Sports and Spine Center completed our morning event by showing us some preventive maneuvers to keep our hardworking necks and backs in good condition. They specialize in minimally invasive treatment and non-surgical pain management. Dr. Macyszyn's center also provided delicious box lunches from Lemonade for all participants! After lunch, talented barber Dominique Evans demonstrated a tapered clipper cut while charming us with her skilled repartee. Dominique has dual licenses and more than 20 years of experience. We were schooled in the proper ways to use clippers and how to choose the right guard and clipper blade to get the outcome you desire. Her techniques and artistry were inspiring and educational. Our final presentation was by 30-year veteran of textured styling and wigmaking, Bridgette Winton. She showed us methods used to quickly curl and straighten textured hair without a blow dry, her favorite products, and quick application of a ponytail. Bridgette is a skilled wig, pony, and extension maker, teacher and self-described "Diva for the people." Affiliate programs and discount codes are available, so check out the company websites and please remember to give virtual love! @jaysonthebarber @paulmitchellschool_pasadena @lulyjames @e_mendez @virtue_pro @virtuelabs @WezTeck @janinejarman @curlcultdiscmdgroup.com @bridgettesessenceofbeauty We wish to acknowledge all the amazing people who gave their time presenting and volunteering to create another important day of education. We are grateful for every single one of you.
