know what the weather's going to be or what the wind's going to do, that all affects the performance. The unpredictability and reality of being out there just gives you something that you can't get in a controlled environment." The production continued to get savvy with our locations. Los Angeles proved to be an excellent resource for finding Europe, some additional Washington, D.C. and New York; Pasadena gave us parts of Berkeley. And, thankfully we were still able to swing filming key scenes in actual Berkeley, New Jersey and New York as planned. Our main offices were out of Universal Studios with a satellite office in Albuquerque, where our main construction mill was located. In New Mexico, I based out of Santa Fe, situated between Ghost Ranch, Los Alamos proper and Belen (Trinity site). Supervising Art Director Samantha Englender was my right hand, navigating the simultaneous builds, installs and schedules. Our small but mighty team covered a lot of ground. The hardest part of the endless drives between sets was no cellphone service, making it extra challenging to get work done on the road. While we had a small group of New Mexico locals helping us in our satellite Art Department, back in Los Angeles, our incredible Art Department coordinator Heather Elwell kept things flowing from state to state. She perfected the art of disseminating information among all departments, without losing the thread as schedules, crew and time zones changed. Heather worked closely with Hilary Ament, the lead Graphic Artist, who shouldered the responsibility of recreating Oppenheimer's graphic world throughout the decades.
