Existing carpets and window draperies which were too fragile to be moved were covered with custom-made ones where possible and embellished with gold fringe and period-correct linen sheer blinds for lighting control. Very strict protocols had to be observed while filming here, as well as all the other venues for which we were able to gain permissions for filming. Set decorations were sourced not only locally in the UK but also imported from both France and Italy, as well as custom designed and built in the prop-making workshops, particularly a number of royal beds. The production made good use of many of the rooms and corridors of this magnificent interior which were revamped many times for various scenes portraying Napoleon's Imperial lifestyle, once he had risen to power. Byzantine Victorian Building The film wanted to film inside a major Neo- Byzantine Victorian building both because of its scale and because of this cathedral's similarity to period Russian architecture. The cathedral has a huge uninterrupted nave with several adjacent side chapels, all done in rare multi-colored marbles and embellished with stunning golden mosaic ceiling vaults quite similar to what we found in our research of the actual tsar of Russia's palace in Moscow. We were given permission to film inside the cathedral A. PALACE OF FONTAINEBLEAU GREAT ENTRANCE HALL. FILMED AT BLENHEIM PALACE. PRODUCTION STILL BY AIDAN MONAGHAN. B.
