The Fabelmans
The Woman King
THE FABELMANS
Universal Pictures
Steven Spielberg dives into his own past to tell his
childhood story of falling in love with filmmaking
through the eyes of fictional kid Sammy
Fabelman. Carefully chosen locales in Southern
California and Tucson take us back in time to
Sammy's sunny youth playing out in post-World
War II New Jersey and Arizona. The Orpheum
Theatre and Malibu Beach hark back to a time
of Hollywood innocence and magic that sparked
Sammy's imagination, while street scenes and
home exteriors in Whittier and Chatsworth were
faithfully matched to Spielberg's memories.
THE WOMAN KING
Tri Star Pictures/Sony Pictures
Powerful visuals underscore anticolonial themes
as a general and a queen unite in 18th-century
West Africa to defend their kingdom against French
invaders. Meticulously selected locations in South
Africa reflect the historical context of the story while
driving the action. The film's earthy palette is inspired
by West Africa's red soil and showcases dazzling
beaches, nature and wildlife preserves, mountains
and savannahs. Power dynamics at play are visible in
the modern industrialized French forts, the queen's
majestic traditional palace and the general's rugged,
utilitarian military camp.
Classic and international gardens, roads,
ponds, mature trees, statues, architecture.
