Cleverly utilized locations in and around Prague bring the grim period into focus: the surrounding Czech countryside stands in for bleak French battlefields, with hundreds of feet of ditches dug at a Soviet-era airport to recreate trench warfare scenes. The region's forests and sweeping fields host encampments and occupied villages, while its stately period architecture, historic castles and grand manors double as military command centers and recruitment salons. ARGENTINA 1985 Prime Video Filming on location in Buenos Aires cranks up the tension and the stakes in this historical drama about an inexperienced legal team prosecuting the heads of Argentina's bloody military dictatorship. Symbols of government power become the people's stage as the country transitions to democracy: The quest for justice plays out at the cathedral-like neoclassical courtroom at the Palacio de Tribunales and the city's oldest public square the Plaza de Mayo. THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN Searchlight Pictures Set in the 1920s and filmed on the spectacular Irish coast, a seemingly prosaic squabble between two life-long friends is cast against wider conflicts through the film's visual language: wild panoramas of restless seas, windswept skies, ancient stonework and craggy mountains. Padraic leads a simple but harsh life in a stone hut filmed on the stunning cliffs of Irish heritage site Inish Mór, while Achill Island is the site of musician and thinker Colm's romantic bayside whaling cottage. Their personal strife is both shaped by and dwarfed by the majestic scenery, a deft metaphor for those who were swept up in Ireland's historic civil conflict.
