The city's rich African-American culture is prevalent and visible in the form of his- torical landmarks and libraries. Located at 170 NW Fifth Avenue in Delray Beach, the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum is the only museum in Palm Beach County dedicated to sharing the African, Haitian and Caribbean-American cultural contribu- tions to Florida. The Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church was organ- ized in 1893. Originally located on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach, FL, this was the first school for African Americans in Palm Beach County. Pine Ridge Hospital was established in 1916 to serve African-Americans since they were not accepted in other hospitals at the time. The hospital offered the only care to African-Americans during segregation and the Jim Crow era. The Sunset Cocktail Lounge was established in 1933 for Jazz Entertainment. It was considered the "Cotton Club of the South". Ella Fitzgerald and other prominent jazz entertainers performed here.
