It is a ten-year tradition that has allowed Illustrators, Storyboard Artists, designers, and other 800 members to express themselves through the medium of comics. The comic book is a medium that shares much in common with the medium of film. It's a medium that allows an artist to create and design whole new worlds and characters. However, the comic is a medium that is more personal and individual than the more collaborative medium of film. Instead of a crew of hundreds, comics can be made with less than a handful of artists or as little as one. Creating comics gives Graphic Designers, Set Designers, Illustrators, Storyboard Artists and others an avenue to use their skills to tell their own stories without having to worry about budgets or answering to another person's vision. At the end of the day, as both comic book artists and filmmakers, we are all part of the art of storytelling, one of the oldest and most human of activities. As film and TV Art Department members, we strive to be part of the team that helps others tell their stories through film, but once in a while, it's good to tell our own stories through the much less expensive medium of comic books. We have eleven contributors this year. Anson Jew shows dual views of churchgoers giving their Sunday Best. David Stephan takes us on a dangerous ride aboard TRAIN 8. David Larks introduces us to A Boy Named Sams. Frank Forte presents us with The Vampire Verses for some scary fun. Hugo Maldonado lets us ride with Western bandits in VALLERO! Are alien invasions more your thing? Look to Keith Morange's Sky Lights. With the death of 87 people, Rudi Liden helps us untangle The Complications. Ryan Falkner takes us on the run with a woman with no memory in Aria. Tim Burgard shows his love of Greek mythology in his humorous The Iluvlussey. Tim Stuart Hildebrandt hits the sci-fi, crime and Western tropes stone cold with Red Rock. Benton Jew looks at the nature of myth and legend in early colonial America with The Gulegodt.
