1 6 P E R S P E C T I V E | M A R C H / A P R I L 2 0 2 3 The 27th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards were presented at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown on Saturday, February 18, to a full house of designers and their supporters and benefactors. Produced by Michael Allen Glover and Megan Elizabeth Bell, the show was hosted for a second consecutive year by the effervescent actress and comedian Yvette Nicole Brown, who was joined onstage by numerous celebrity presenters, including Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, The Hours), Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Grifters), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Emily Hampshire (Schitt's Creek), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), Samba Schutte and Vico Ortiz (Our Flag Means Death). Along with design awards in fourteen categories, the Guild also recognized the sustained contributions of individual members with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, given out by each of the four ADG councils. Set Designer Luis G. Hoyos was recognized for his career accomplishments, including Memoirs of a Geisha, Dreamgirls and the current Academy Award nominee Babylon. Production Designer Lilly Kilvert was awarded for her design work on projects such as The Crucible, The Last Samurai and Legends of the Fall. Illustrator and storyboard artist Janet Kusnick was acknowledged for her work on shows like Jungle Cruise, Silverado and The Day the Earth Stood Still. And Scenic Artist Michael Denering was presented with a Lifetime Award for work seen in hundreds of films and television shows over three decades, including Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Batman Returns and Jurassic Park.
