room set from the first movie. Set Designer Harshita Reddy must have watched the original a hundred times to recreate the main area of Santa's living quarters, complete with the iconic Santa face-shaped fireplace. All other sets were either entirely new or entirely reimagined for the purposes of this series. Luckily, someone had saved one of the original Santa's workshop balusters (a real art nouveau affair) that the crew was able to cast and mold by the hundreds, sprinkling them around the sets to make them feel familiar and yet somehow brand new. Along with their original intention as balusters, they made great table legs, elf computer stands and supports for a dozen stools. The biggest design challenge was the main hallway. It would be one of the most important sets, as it was the connective tissue to all the other worlds the film would bring together. Quite literally, it tied the established Santa's quarters living room to the newly imagined children's bedrooms, Santa's office and the massive workshop space. Mel and I conceptualized the hallway first. We pulled some ideas from the original and sequel films, as well as a blend art deco and art nouveau.
