1 0 8 P E R S P E C T I V E | J A N U A R Y / F E B R U A R Y 2 0 2 3 The world of Bardo is experienced though its main character, Silverio, who is in the midst of an existential crisis, caught between the life that he left behind in his native country and the prosperous existence he has built with his family beyond the border in the US. The sets are not just physical manifestations of his world, they are part of his state of mind. That was a very interesting starting point for me. I understood that the film is about his personal memories, but at the same time it touches on topics from Mexico's collective memory, and that hooked me even more. Early on, I spoke with Alejandro about the tone of the film. One of the important aspects was that the film is a comedy. We wanted the sets to have a whimsical feeling without losing all the layers of symbolism and meaning.
