New color grading workflow features include brightness and contrast controls on the color grading panel; buttons and options to access the color-grad- ing panel from the track, media and video output levels; Bézier curve sup- port for OFX keyframe animation; and overall performance improvements. Timeline and workflow efficiency features include the ability to automat- ically crop video files to the aspect ratio of the project when added to the timeline and new project templates for vertical aspect ratio projects. There are a number of new speech-to-text features, including customized subtitle creation for speech to text; additional languages and regional dialects for text to speech; and automatically detecting the OS language. Additionally, support has been added for ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes 4444 and ProRes 422 Proxy formats. BITS & PIECES HULA SUPPORTS HYBRID WORKFLOW FOR THE VALET BURBANK, CA — Hula Post (www.hulapost.com) supported a hybrid workfl w — with remote and local editing systems — for the Hulu feature, The Valet. The film is a emake of the 2006 French film of the same name and enters on a parking valet (Eugenio Derbez) at a Beverly Hills restaurant, who is enlisted by a movie star (Samara Weaving) to pose as her lover in order to cover for her relationship with a married man. The Valet began principal photography in April 2021 on location in Atlanta, with COVID safety protocols in place. Edited by Sandra Montiel, ACE, the editorial team used a hybrid editing workfl w, with members initially working from home for the editor's cut. Hula Post installed an Avid Media Composer system for Montiel, and fir t assistant editor Jeremy Mattheis, second assis- tant editor Annie Popko and apprentice editor Henry Mendoza used the Hula Post Everywhere remote editing solution. Three Avid Media Composers were set up at Hula Post's Victory Blvd. location in Burbank, with media stored in a secure da- tacenter there. Using a Residential Remote Interface in-home in- stallation, team mem- bers accessed their systems via a secure connection, with ded- icated bandwidth and Avid NEXIS storage. "Working with a computer remotely is strange initially," recalls Mattheis. "Now, at this stage, the process is much smoother, and once I get involved in a project, I forget that I'm working remotely, so it's business as usual." In July 2021, once shooting had wrapped, Montiel and her team moved into a suite at Hula Post's West LA location to begin the director's cut, with direc- tor Richard Wong attending. Post producer Renee Minasian, post PA Nayeli Fernandez, and post coordinator McKenzie Mosely also joined them at that point. Hula Post relocated the Media Composers, originally installed in Burbank, and Montiel's home system, so that everyone was then networked together. But the remote access to the systems remained in place at the assistants' homes, giving them the option to work from home or in the office. Montiel started cutting The Valet at the end of April 2021 and finished th third week of February 2022. www.postmagazine.com 10 POST MAY/JUNE 2022 N E X T I S S U E EMMYS A look at this year's contenders SUMMER MOVIES Big-screen blockbusters STORAGE The latest product releases MARI KOHN 818.291.1153 | mkohn@postmagazine.com CO N TACT U S A B O U T P R I N T & O N L I N E A DV E RT I S I N G O P P O RT U N I T I ES : SPACE CLOSE: J U LY 1 3 T H MATERIAL CLOSE; J U LY 1 8 T H DELIVERY: AUGUST 1 6 T H MADAME X MAKING MADONNA'S PARAMOUNT+ CONCERT FILM W H E R E T E C H N O L O G Y A N D TA L E N T M E E T S M www.postmagazine.com POST NOV/DEC 2021 PLUS: OUTLOOK 2022 DIRECTORS SWOT EDITING: THE FRENCH DISPATCH REVIEW: FAIRLIGHT DESKTOP CONSOLE NIGHTMARE ALLEY EDITING GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S 'BEST PICTURE' NOMINEE W H E R E T E C H N O L O G Y A N D TA L E N T M E E T S M www.postmagazine.com POST JAN/FEB 2022 PLUS: ANIMATION: ENCANTO MOONFALL DIRECTOR ROLAND EMMERICH VFX: DUNE VIRTUAL PRODUCTION THE BATMAN INSIDE WETA'S BLOCKBUSTER VFX W H E R E T E C H N O L O G Y A N D TA L E N T M E E T S M www.postmagazine.com POST MAR/APR 2022 PLUS: ANIMATION: NAMOO MAKING MUSIC VIDEOS REMOTE WORKFLOWS THE OUTFIT DIRECTOR GRAHAM MOORE WORKSTATIONS Sandra Montiel, ACE The Valet's Eugenio Derbez
