AUGUST 2010 SPORTS & EDUCATION 30 1. Legends Restaurant & Sports Bar If you want to be where the action is, go to Legends. It sits in the middle of always- buzzing Second Street in Belmont Shore, so it's always packed – and with good reason. Legends has been part of Long Beach for 30 years. Dennis Harrah, then an offensive lineman for the Los Angeles Rams, opened it way back in 1979. If it weren't for the framed sports memorabilia peppering the walls, the red brick and wood walls and high vaulted ceiling would give it a cool, old-western-saloon feel. The outdoor patio stretches the length of the bar, which makes it great for people- watching. The best draw for the sports fan is the abundance of HDTVs. More than 30 fill the main room with small personal screens in each booth. It has a good beer selection—16 draft and 16 bottled—and an even better wine selection—20 all together. With crowds of people coming in and out, a good drink selection and plenty of TVs, this is the liveliest place to watch a game. 5236 E. Second Street 562.433.5743 legendssportsbar.com 2. The Auld Dubliner Irish Pub & Restaurant For those who love the stone-and-wood, Old World charm of Irish pubs, but hate that you hardly ever find a TV inside one, The Auld Dubliner is the place for you. Up until last month, the whole place had only two HDTVs, but they recently installed a huge 8-foot-tall high-def projection screen just for the World Cup. And it's there to stay, even though the World Cup's over. The pub is tucked inconspicuously in the side of a building in The Pike at Rainbow Harbor, the super-trendy shopping and dining area in Downtown. The place has an outstanding selection of drinks – 20 beers on tap, 12 in bottles and 8 wines. The best part, though, is their selection of Irish whiskeys. Count'em, they have 28 different FOOD & WINE : BY THE GLASS GAME TIME WRITTEN BY PETER SUROWSKI When it comes to watching sports with a good beer and a good crowd, this city has got you covered. Here is our list of the Top Five Sports Bars in town
