PRODUCTS www.postmagazine.com 36 POST MAY/JUNE 2020 CANON DEBUTS C300 MARK III SUPER 35MM CAMERA MELVILLE, NY — Canon USA (usa. canon.com/provideo) has added to its expansive Cinema EOS line up of digital cinema cameras with the new EOS C300 Mark III. The next-gener- ation Super 35mm camera features a new Dual Gain Output (DGO) sensor and, like the full-frame EOS C500 Mark II digital cinema camera, employs a modular design and an interchangeable lens mount optional accessory that allows users to easily customize the camera according to the needs of each project. The newly developed 4K Super 35mm DGO imaging system captures high dynamic range content by reading out each pixel through two separate gains. One gain prioritizes saturation in highlight areas while the other suppresses noise in the shadows. The result is an image with up to 16-plus stops of dynamic range, clean rich shadows and vibrant highlights in up to 4K/60p. In 2K recording mode, the EOS C300 Mark III camera features recording speeds up to 180p. Equipped with Canon's latest video imaging processor, the DIGIC DV 7, the camera achieves more fluid and efficient recording of 4K and HDR, and can process high-speed video recording, including 4K at up to 120p. The EOS C300 Mark III camera utilizes Cinema RAW Light, a tool for helping to cut the data size of a file to about one-third to one-fifth of a similar Cinema RAW file without losing grading flexibility. In addition to being able to record 4K and 2K raw data internally without using an external recorder, the camera also supports XF-AVC (with a choice of Intra or LongGOP), offering flexible options in recording durations. The C300 Mark III will be available later in 2020 for an estimated retail price of $10,999. Vegas Post now includes updated versions of Vegas Effects and Vegas Image. The two companies entered into a partnership back in 2019. Vegas Post provides video editing tools along with tools for com- positing, visual effects and still image editing — thanks to FXhome. The package is well suited for video professionals in post production facilities of all sizes and requirements. MAXON ANNOUNCES CINEMA 4D S22 FRIEDRICHSDORF, GERMANY — Maxon (maxon.net) has announced Cinema 4D Subscription Release 22 (S22), the next generation of the company's 3D application and first subscription-only release. S22 gives early access to performance and interactivity improvements, including UV unwrapping and editing tools, improved selection and modeling tool functionality, organizational licensing for volume customers, and updated viewport technology with support for Metal on MacOS. In addition, Maxon has boosted Cinema 4D's pipeline compatibility with GLTF export, improved GoZ integration with Z-Brush, and support for node-based materials in FBX and Cineware. Cinema 4D S22 is immediately available for subscription customers. For perpetual license holders of Cinema 4D, a release is scheduled later this year that will incorporate the features of S22, as well as additional enhancements. Cinema 4D S22 requires Windows 10 or MacOS 10.13.6 at minimum, and the latest 10.15 release for the best experience. The subscription-based model allows Maxon to offer Cinema 4D at a lower price and with more frequent improvements. V-RAY NOW AVAILABLE AS PERSONAL LEARNING EDITION LOS ANGELES — Chaos Group (chaosgroup.com) has released V-Ray PLE for Maya, a new personal learning edition of its production renderer. V-Ray PLE helps new and self-taught CG artists explore the benefits of photo- realistic rendering at their own pace, using a free, non-commercial license that can be renewed every 90 days. With access to nearly every V-Ray feature, artists can build new skills as they try out some of the same tools used to bring Game of Thrones and Avengers: Infinity War to life. V-Ray PLE for Maya comes equipped with all the major features of V-Ray Next, including scene intelligence, GPU production rendering and improved IPR. While renders are never watermarked, V-Ray PLE output is limited to 4K. Other limitations are mainly network or development driven: no batch rendering, distributed rendering or access to AppSDK. V-Ray PLE for Maya has been in development for several months, but was fast-tracked after COVID-19 to help more artists access the software from home. With more artists indoors, Chaos Group wanted to offer an engaging way to build new skills. To help them along, Chaos Group has also added a new set of learning materials to the V-Ray for Maya docu- mentation page. V-Ray PLE for Maya represents the pilot project for V-Ray personal learning editions. Chaos Group will leave the option open for other prod- ucts in the future.
