Play ball! It's DELAWARE SCHOOLS NIGHT at the Saturday, May 18, 7:05pm Fireworks sponsored by DSEA! e'd like the stands to be filled with you, your students and their families for a fun night of minor league baseball! As a main sponsor for this game, DSEA will be distributing stadium cups to the first W thousand people who enter the stadium. FIRST PITCH: As the fireworks sponsor, we have the honor of choosing who will throw out the first pitch. It could be you! We invite all K-12 public students in the state, especially in Kent and Sussex Counties, to tell us why we should choose a particular teacher or coach for this honor. Why is this person a great teacher or coach? What are they learning from them? Encourage your students to send an email to Pamela.Nichols@dsea.org with their statement of no more than 200 words and the word Shorebirds in the subject line. The deadline is 5pm, Friday, April 26. TWENTY FREE TICKETS: We also have twenty tickets to give away. They could be yours! We invite all DSEA members, especially those in Kent and Sussex Counties, to tell us the top ten things that are great about their school. We'll spread the word about those "great school accomplishments" during the game! And we'll choose one lucky member to receive the 20 tickets! Send your top ten list to Pamela.Nichols@dsea.org with TopTen in the subject line. The deadline is 5pm, Friday, April 26. The Delmarva Shorebirds are the Class "A" Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Located in Salisbury, MD, the team calls Arthur W. Perdue Stadium its home. Located at 6400 Hobbs Road right off of Rte. 50 in Salisbury, parking is free to full and half season ticket holders; $3 for standard-sized vehicles and motorcycles; and $10 for buses. What about Wilmington's Blue Rocks team? For the past ten years, DSEA's Great Schools Great Communities campaign has sponsored an important Blue Rocks project: the printing and distribution by their mascot, Rocky Bluewinkle, of 35,000 bookmarks to students in schools throughout the area. The bookmarks encourage students to fill in the titles of books they have read in return for tickets to games. The Shorebirds have a similar program where they promote literacy throughout the summer at Kent and Sussex County public libraries, but it already has sponsors. In our quest to find more ways to promote support for Great Public Schools in Kent and Sussex Counties, the "Delaware Schools For news, information and tips for students and parents, go to www.greatschoolsgreat communities.com. And do join the conversation with more than 8,000 people who support great public schools for all students on Facebook at www.facebook.com/greatschoolsgreatcommunities. 4 March/April 2013 DSEA ACTION! www.dsea.org
