Using a "discussion and feedback" technique, the DSEA Leadership Team asked everyone to take one of the organization's goals, and think about areas where we are meeting it as well as where we could do better. Activists go to WAR his year's annual Winter Advocacy Retreat (WAR) was different. DSEA staff and leaders decided to offer training for the three levels of activists that we have: Basic Training, open to any Association member; Boot Camp Training for Association Representatives; and Boots on the Ground Organizing training, for more experienced members and leaders. T But more than that, DSEA staff wanted to train using the Kagan Publishing's "Dynamic Trainer" techniques. Kagan Publishing specializes in training for teachers (www.kagan online.com), but their "Dynamic Training" is for any adult training situation. The result was a dynamic weekend of high-energy, fast-paced, engaged, even enjoyable learning. "My expectations were more than met," writes a Boot Camp attendee. "I wasn't sure what I would get from this because I am new. I learned so much and enjoyed all of it. I was totally engaged 100% of the time." Trained leaders left with personal commitments to moving their locals forward. All of the WAR photos can be found on the DSEA Facebook page at www.facebook.com/dseafan.
