Formerly head of produc- tion, Scott's promotion is to a newly-created role that will see her manage the whole facility and its opera- tions. Scott joined Outpost VFX in 2019 as its first em- ployee in North America following a decade working at major VFX vendors in Montréal, Toronto and London. Some of her tentpole VFX production credits include The Martian and Guardians of the Galaxy. In the short time since, Outpost VFX, which is headquartered in Bournemouth, UK, has seen its Montreal operation grow to 50 people. Scott has overseen VFX production for See (Apple), Locke & Key (Netflix) and the upcom- ing second season of The Alienist (Paramount Television). KATIE HOOTEN Technicolor in Los Angeles has appointed Katie Hooten head of studio at its Pre-Production Studio, a recently-launched venture designed to serve as a resource to filmmakers by creating a seamless pipe- line for feature projects. The studio offers services that include concept art, visualization and realtime production, all the way through to final visual effects. Hooten is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of feature film expe- rience in live-action, animation, VFX and immersive entertainment. She first joined Technicolor's MPC art department as creative producer after appoint- ments at Blur Studio, The Third Floor and Walt Disney Feature Animation. As head of studio, Hooten will manage the LA team at the Pre-Production Studio, providing top talent, tools and workflows for art department and visualization services, as well as realtime production and VFX. JENNIFER GAIDA The Colonie continues to grow its roster of talent and services with the recent addition of colorist Jennifer Gaida. The hiring marks the launch of the Chicago-based company's new color grading division, and rounds out a list of services that includes editing and design. Gaida comes to the studio from Energy BBDO's Flare. She previous spent three-years at Utopic, where she honed her skills as both a colorist and editor. Some of her credits include color grading broadcast commercials and social media campaigns for brands such as Starbucks, Porsche, Revlon and Pantene. She is working out of The Colonie's new Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve suite and has already completed projects for Perrier, Cresco, La Mer, Walmart, HP and Toyota. CHARLIE VON ROTBERG Soho, London-based edit house Homespun, which specializes in short films and music videos, has promoted assistant editor Charlie Von Rotberg to editor. A graduate of the Camberwell College of Art, Von Rotberg joined Homespun three years ago. He has since cut promos for Skepta, Lewis Capaldi and Elderbrook x Rudimental. Von Rotberg's editing chops developed while creating his band's own music videos. MERRITT DUFF Merritt Duff has joined the bicoastal Union as partner/ editor. He is known for his work with Progressive, including their recent Progressive Halftime Show spot. Other recent credits include work for Frontier and Mastercard. He comes to the studio from Beast. A Colby College graduate, Duff had a six-year stint at SNL, where he was immersed in every aspect of his craft, from pre-production through post production, working primarily on the series' commercial parodies. He turned his focus to editing in 2005, joining the newly-launched boutique Cutting Room. There, he spent 11 years working with clients such as ESPN, FedEx, Adidas, Lowes and Progressive. He joined Beast's New York office in 2016. GERALD MARK SOTO Brand New School has hired Gerald Mark Soto as animation director at their New York studio. Over the past 20 years, Soto provided design, animation and direction for commercial, experiential, broadcast and film projects. In addition, he's taught and mentored students in the graphic design department at the School of Visual Arts for more than a decade. Soto's credits include work for brands such as Nike, American Express, The New York Times, Samsung, Squarespace, Apple and Google, a frequent Brand New School client. DAN MALONEY Nomad Editing Company in New York City has strengthened its roster with the addition of multifac- eted editor Dan Maloney. Best known for his work cutting wry, eclectic comedy spots, Maloney has also edited content that holds an emotional component. Prior to joining Nomad, Maloney cut at studios that included Whitehouse Post, Cut+Run, Spot Welders and Deluxe's Beast. Throughout his career, he has implemented his eye for composi- tion to a wide range of films, documentaries, branded content and commercials, including Tide's Interview spot, which debuted during Super Bowl XLII. PASSING: JAY TILIN With sadness, Goldcrest Post announced the passing of post industry pioneer Jay Tilin (11/27/1957–02/12/2020) following a long illness. Head of production at Goldcrest Post since 2017, Tilin worked in the industry as an editor, visual effects artist and executive for 40 years. His many credits include the Netflix series Marco Polo, and the series Treme and True Detective for HBO. Tilin began his career in 1980 as an editor with Devlin Productions. He also spent many years at The Tape House, Technicolor, Riot and Deluxe, all in New York. The studio held a memorial event on March 12th in his honor.
