They've been classroom partners for 15 years, all at Hartly Elementary School in Capital. Capital's Kathy Edwards WDSD All-Star Educator of the Month SEA is proud to be the sponsor of the WDSD All-Star Educator of the Month recognition program which honors a non-teacher educator September through May . Through ads on WDSD 94.7FM radio, listeners are invited to go to www.wdsd.com and fill out a form to nominate someone. The staff there chooses a winner each month and notifies DSEA. Jill Harrington thinks so highly of her partner/para, Kathy Edwards that she took the time to nominate her: "She instinctively adapts lessons to support her students' learning. She is able to D encourage children while celebrating the individual differences. Her kindness, humor and patience help her establish relationships with her students that help them reach their potential." Their collaboration, they both say, is key to their successful partnership. "We really do discuss what strategies to use for our special needs students," says Harrington. "We're a great team," adds Edwards. "I've learned so much from Jill." And, adds Jill, "We're not afraid to be honest with each other. It takes a lot of respect and trust for that to happen, but it's important to our success." Kathy Edwards agrees to come in to school to help out with the summer program for a supposedly sick colleague – at no pay. It was a ruse so that we could surprise her with this award in front of her colleagues. She's reading Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett to some of Hartly Elementary School's summer "campers."
