Training and Professional Development Learn how to be effective, confident Assoc. Rep Association Representative I Training set for September his training is for current and aspiring association representatives. Participants will learn how to tackle the many roles of the AR with confidence. Communication, advocacy, problem solving, political action, and T recruitment skills will be developed. Participants will leave the training with a better understanding of how to engage and increase member involvement. This class runs from 8:30-3:30. Choose one. You asked – DSEA listened! Professional Development programs designed to meet your needs and . . . • Improve your classroom teaching and learning conditions • Assist you with your continuing professional education, and • Help you achieve greater control over the development and management of your professional career. The following DSEA professional development opportunities have been scheduled for 2013-2014. In addition, DSEA will design and/or customize programs at the request of a local affiliate. Mark your calendars and watch for further details (specific locations and how to register). All of these sessions are free to DSEA members and many will be helpful to all members, not only teachers. Educators/school employees and the Law: November 5 (NCC), 7 (Dover), 12 (Sussex) Focus: The laws related to discipline in the classroom, the amount of force that can be used in school, what to do about libel and slander, your legal responsibility for student performance on the DCAS, the basics of the DSEA legal program, etc. March 2014 Professional Development Conference – March 29 Possible Sessions: Bullying Safety in the schools Working with Children with Autism and Other Disabilities Special Education 101: IEP's, Collecting Data, and Behavior Plans Differentiated Instruction September 2013 Understanding Component 5: September 19 (New Castle County), 24 (Dover), 26 (Sussex) Focus: Understanding Component 5 with a particular focus on roster verification, group selection, measure selection, setting SMART goals, and participating in an effective fall conference with your building administrator. April 2014 Understanding Component 5 – Part II: April 15 (NCC), 17 (Dover), 29 (Sussex) Focus: Understanding Component 5 with a particular focus on roster verification, planning for and participating in an effective spring conference with the building administrator, deriving a Component 5 rating and overall rating for DPAS II- Revised. October 2013 Common Core Implementation - Understanding the Instructional Shifts: October 8 (NCC), 22 (Dover), 29 (Sussex) Focus: Understanding the pedagogical shifts and literacy demands required by the Common Core and their impact on classroom instruction for ELA and Math teachers as well as other content area educators. Smart Board Training: October 5 (New Castle County) Focus: How to effectively use SMART Board technology in the classroom.
