Ryan Murphy enlisted me to join his second season of American Crime
Story after our work together recreating the contrasting lives and
lifestyles of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in Feud. The two lives in
Versace were a study not just in opposites, but in divergent extremes.
Gianni's life is gilded on nearly every surface, whereas Andrew's is
equally squalid.
My design considered everything, including the kitchen sink. But
let's look at two bathroom sinks, for contrast. The production filmed
in Gianni's Miami house on Ocean Drive, and then recreated that
bedroom and bathroom on the Fox lot—with embellishments. The
