VINEYARD BRANDS 54 / the tasting panel / october 2012 Miguel Torres 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Santa Digna Reserve, Star 2011 Masters of Riesling SCHLOSS VOLLRADS, IN GERMANY'S RHEINGAU region, is one of the world's oldest wine estates, with a traceable history dating back to the early 13th century. Riesling is the only grape grown on the 200-acre property, and with 800 years of experience, Vollrads has truly per- fected this noble varietal. The estate is currently managed by Dr. Rowald Hepp, a charming fellow who is a Master of Wine. He has breathed new life into this historic property. The wines are among Germany's best. I recently tasted through several wines in the portfo- lio, ranging from the charming dry Qualitätswein to a highly impressive Spätlese. Here are my notes. 91 92 91 92 94 Schloss Vollrads 2011 Riesling QbA Dry, Rheingau ($20) Fresh, aromatic and juicy with tangy acidity and lovely mineral notes; bright, pure and smooth with citrus, peach and dry flavors; elegant and long.
