AD Training Programs Seek Applicants The application period for the 2017 Directors Guild-Producer Training Plan's Assistant Director Training Program (ADTP), and the New York DGA Assistant Director Training Program are currently under way. Applications will be available for the West Coast program in early September 2017 via online submission and must be transmitted by Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Applications will also be available for the New York program in early September and must be postmarked by Friday, December 1, 2017. Trainees undergo on-the-job work experience, participating in a series of rotations that places trainees on the sets of various feature fi lms and television series under the supervision of DGA 2nd ADs, 1st ADs and UPMs. The training lasts 400 days for West Coast Trainees and 350 days for New York Trainees. All Trainees also attend a number of mandatory seminars on various aspects of the industry. After the successful completion of training, graduates are eligible to join the DGA as a 2nd AD. If you know of eligible candidates, have them visit the West Coast website at www.trainingplan.org, or call (818) 386-2545; or the New York website at www.dgatrainingprogram.org or call (212) 397-0930. The New York Training Program's commercial production wing launched a West Coast version in 2010. On July 15, new ADTP Commercial trainees Atena Assiaee and Greg Hall initiated their training with an orientation at DGA headquarters in Los Angeles. If you hire a Trainee to work on distant location, the Training Plan can cover up to 35% of the trainee's transportation, per diem and housing costs. There are also discounts for features budgeted at less than $11M. • Available either as long-term or daily-hires to support the DGA team. Have You Hired a Trainee Lately? Instead of a Production Assistant on your next project, consider hiring a Trainee from the Assistant Director Training Program.
