P E R S P E C T I V E | J U LY / AU G U S T 2 0 1 7 83 by Tristan Miles Theopholis Dalley, Assistant Art Director Above: A high dynamic range (HDR) photograph of the Photon Pistol, designed by Mr. Dalley. The original of this prop, built by the Burbank Studios effects shop, primarily by Gene Rizzardi, included several small relays to get the multitude of LEDs to flicker appropriately. Two identical versions were built (so there's always a battery-hot backup), along with several stunt versions made by mouldmaster Patrick Denver that make use of clear urethane to replace the mostly undroppable acrylic spheres. Opposite, bottom: A SketchUp ® model of the interior Man Cave set. Inset: A photograph of the finished set, on Stage 11 at Burbank Studios (formerly NBC Burbank). The Man symbol in the center of the floor is built as an insert (with a spare standing by) as it is the most frequent location for breaking, falling, burning and generally putting holes in scenery.
