This year's NAB show will debut DESTINATION BROADBAND , a new exhibit area focusing on advances and applications for broadband technol- ogy. More than 50 companies will par ticipate in the exhibit, which will in- clude a presentation theater. Three specialized areas will be designated: Broadband Innovations, Mobile Solutions and Broadband Lifestyles. The pavilion will host over 25 companies. FUTURE MEDIA CONCEPTS is organizing the 6th annual POST|PRO- DUCTION WORLD CONFERENCE at NAB (www.nabshow.com). The conference will offer over 250 sessions in 11 concurrent breakout rooms over five days. Attendees can learn apps from manufacturers such as Apple, Adobe and Avid, as well as workflow techniques. In addition, attendees will be able to reference over 200-hours of previously-recorded sessions from the NAB Online Learning Center. Pricing varies based on package selected. FMC (www.fmctraining.com) will have its instructors at its booth too, high- lighting course offerings and its new FMC|Online live training platform. At NAB, RORKE DATA (www.rorke.com) will show Galaxy Aurora, a stor- age solution that now suppor ts dual streams of 2K in a single 4RU appli- ance. A single Galaxy Aurora array is capable of over 3000MBytes/second and can easily be shared via 4/8Gb Fibre Channel or 40Gb InfiniBand using preferred SAN software. Capacity and performance scales to over 144TB and 6000MB/s sustained performance.The solution can easily and efficiently manage capture and playback of DPX files. DIGITAL RAPIDS (www.digital-rapids.com) will have its new StreamZ Live family of encoders at NAB. The encoders feature high output quality and reliability needed for live distribution channels from Internet TV and IPTV to mobile video. The company will also be showing its TouchStream por table live streaming appliance, as well as the versatile StreamZHD studio encod- ing system, which has been updated with Version 3.2 software. StreamZHD provides high-quality capture and encoding to multiple simultaneous output formats from live and tape-based sources. At NAB, PANASONIC (www.panasonic.com/broadcast) will show an ex- pansion to its 3D production product line with the introduction of the BT- 3DL2550, a 25.5-inch 3D LCD production monitor with full 1920x1200 resolution. The monitor displays 3D content using an Xpol polarizing filter, so content can be viewed with inexpensive passive 3D eyeglasses. Pricing for the BT-3DL2550 3D will be $9,900 when it ships in September. SMALL TREE (www.small-tree.com) will introduce its new 2TB Gran- iteStor ST-RAID direct attached shared storage system, which offers real- time performance for Final Cut Pro users. GraniteStor ST-RAID suppor ts 12 streams of ProRes 422HQ with no dropped frames and provides con- sistent performance over Ethernet networks.The 2TB system is available in 8-, 12- or 16-drive configurations. SCHEDUALL (www.shceduall.com), which makes enterprise resource man- agement software, will showcase its collaboration-themed products and ser- vices. The ERM Appliance connects disparate ScheduAll systems, allowing businesses to view, book and manage projects with resources anywhere within the partner network.The company will also show a Cloud-based app that allows individual contractors/freelancers to collaborate in realtime. T AIPEI, TAIWAN — Taiwanese filmmaker Leon Dai spent two years shooting and editing his feature No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti (Cannot Live Without You), a film that focuses on the special re- lationship between a father and his seven-year-old daughter. The project was shot in black & white using various HD and SD cam- eras, and was edited on a PC run- ning Grass Valley's Edius 5 NLE. Finished sequences were then output to a hard disk drive as TIFF and AAF files, and finally, after audio editing and conforming was completed at Central Pictures Corporation's Dolby Film TV Stu- dio in Taipei, Taiwan, the project was printed to 35mm film. No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti has screened at numerous interna- tional festivals and has won awards a the 2009 Taipei Film Festival, the Skip City International D-Cinema Festival in Japan, and the Durban In- ternational Film Festival in South Africa. Recently it won the prestigious 46th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards for best motion picture, best director and best script. Indie No Puedo cut on Edius V ENICE, C A — Mothership (www.mothership.net), sister company to Digital Domain (D2), has launched with the mission of creating original content, strategies and campaigns for ad agencies and brands across multiple media platforms. Mothership's roster of directors, de- signers and ar tists have roots in hybrid filmmaking, including styles that blend live-action, animation, CG, motion graphics and other techniques. Some of that talent includes Rober t Hales, Dael Oates, David Rosenbaum, Sil Van Der Woerd, Brent Bonacorso, Pierre Michel, Matthew Santoro, Happycamper and Nathan Love on the West Coast. Heading the effor t is D2 commer- cials division president/EP Ed Ulbrich, executive creative director Alejandro Lopez and EP Tanya Cohen. Mother- ship has direct access to D2's vast tech- nology infrastructure, which provides VFX for movies and spots. "Consumer demand for compelling content on con- nected devices creates an enormous oppor tunity for adver tisers," says Ul- brich. "To capture it, agencies need inte- grated cross-platform strategies and cre- ative ser vices, and they're turning to companies who can execute a brand vi- sion from concept to completion."
