Post producer Will Pisnieski (pictured) says the system pro- vides a reliable, high-capacity and cost-effec- tive way to create source masters from mem- ory card- and disk-based cameras. Prime- Cache also provides multi-editor access, as well as secure long-term archival storage. The show is shot using Sony PMW-EX3s. N EW YORK — Director David Gaddie and visual effects super visor James Rogers have launched The Colony (www.the-colony.com), a new multi- disciplinar y directing collective that specializes in visual effects, design, post production and live-action film- making. Located in Manhattan, The Colony is represented by B Reel Films and will focus on providing inspired design- and story-driven ideas to agencies in a post-style environment. Gaddie, an interna- tional director with nu- merous awards to his credit, has the ability to combine complex visual effects with character-dri- ven stor ytelling. His pro- fessional portfolio includes work for Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Heineken, Coca-Cola and Snickers. Rogers has extensive credits in the visual effects industr y, including work on films such as Daybreak- ers and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, as well as on the Sony Playstation game Final Fantasy VIII. He worked for five years on the pioneer- ing computer-animated film Final Fan- tasy: The Spirits Within. Over the last 18 months he has worked with direc- tors such as Gillian Armstrong, Baz Luhrmann, and Alex Proyas. In addi- tion, he is a co-owner of the boutique design and visual effects facility Post- modern Sydney. One of the first projects coming out of The Colony is a pair of PSAs for the Foundation for a Smoke Free America. In both, smokers are asked to be considerate when disposing of their cigarette butts. In one, a girl throws a butt off her fire escape, lighting a man below on fire. In an- other, a man flicks his butt into the street, causing a car accident and fire. Freelancers Rober t Kleman and Nick Klinker t worked with Gaddie and Rogers on the creative. The PSAs were cut by Geordie Ander- son at Union Editorial. These anti-smoking PSAs were one of the collec- tive's first jobs. The edit was via Union Editorial.
