32 Post • March 2010 www.postmagazine.com Sound Library News Blastwave updates HD SFX collection D ETROIT — Blastwave FX (www.blastwavefx.com) has released sound effects updates to Sonopedia, The Blastdrive and .wavFX/Ti- tlewave libraries.The libraries are delivered on Glyph GT 050Q dri- ves that feature high definition sound effects and the Blastwave FX Search En- gine. Free updates are provided to users for life. All of the libraries include royalty-free sound effects and production ele- ments that can be used indefinitely once they are purchased. Sounds were all recorded at 24-bit/96kHz using high definition techniques. The provided search software allows users to search, audition and drag 'n' drop tracks into applications such as Pro Tools, Avid and Final Cut Pro. And as part of the "free updates for life" package, customers receive new sounds every three months, along with search software updates, all of which are downloadable. The libraries feature multiple file formats, including broadcast .wav and .mp3, all with embedded metadata.The Glyph drive has a three-year warranty, which includes two years for first-level data recovery. Sound designing Tyrannosaurus Sex N EW YORK — Big Yellow Duck (www.bigyellowduck.com) handled audio post — including the original score, sound design and mix — for a new Discovery Channel program, Tyrannosaurus Sex.The show, which aired in mid-February, looks at dinosaur reproduction. Along with the T-Rex, the show features the Titanosaur and Stegosaurus. It was produced by Locomotive Group in NYC and features animation/CG by Lux in Vancouver. New York's Point 360 handled editorial and the online. Big Yellow Duck's co-founder/creative director Stuar t Kollmorgen scored the program. Lou Esposito handled sound design, and Ryan Heiferman per- formed the mix.The dinosaurs' roars, growls and footsteps use up much of the very low end of the frequency spectrum, so Kollmorgen left that frequency range mostly to Esposito's sound design, keeping his score in the ethereal and ambient realm. Kollmorgen used his collection of guitars and unique instru- ments. He runs a six-computer system with a Mac Pro running MOTU's Digi- tal Performer serving as the centerpiece. Five other Macs are loaded with ter- abytes of sounds and running various synths and samplers. For Tyrannosaurus Sex, Kollmorgen used Native Instruments' sampler Kontakt and Sprectrasonics Omnisphere synth. Esposito layered various animal sounds taken from the stu- dio's library, including elements from Animal Trax (Hollywood Edge), Sound Ideas 6000, DeWolfe Classic, BBC Series and Sonokinetic. Sound effects were loaded into MOTU's Mach 5 sampler so he could play them simultaneously through his Pro Tools|HD3 rig.They were processed with pitch shift, vari-speed, and time-stretching effects. The T-Rex mating call was described as a low frequency call that traveled very long distances. Heiferman used Waves' LoAir subharmonic synthesizer plug-in to help shape the low end throughout the show. Nashville's 615 Music (www.615music.com) has signed the UK-based In-spired production music catalog, which is com- prised of 16 virtual CDs. The library releases new music quar- terly and is available both online and via hard drive. In-spired tracks are suitable for feature films, trailers, television pro- grams and promos. 615 Music will represent the library exclusively in the US and Canada.
