Movers & Shakers CAREER CORNER Survive the Summer Job Hunt Plan out your attack: Make a list of all the things you want in your next position, and one of target companies that can provide it! Sign up for job alerts and follow compa- nies of interest online, so you are aware of relevant opportunities as they appear. Re-connect: Summer is a great time (or excuse) to meet-up with former colleagues and industry friends over a drink or meal (rooftop cocktails, anyone?) before the hiring season starts in earnest in the fall. (Let them know you are on the hunt!) Make an effort to swing by beverage industry networking events, alumni group activities and company happy hours so you, and your career search, are top of mind come September. Embrace change: Job titles do not necessarily mean the same thing in every orga- nization, especially when it comes to marketing or business development. Go into interviews with an open mind. New jobs opportunities may not be like your last role or current position, but aren't you looking for a reason to shake things up? Change is the only constant—embrace it! Find a mentor: Whether you are considering a complete career change or an inter- industry move—e.g., beer to liquor—be proactive and find a seasoned professional in your desired role to help you successfully navigate a transition. An industry mentor can help identify resume strengths, initiate important introductions and offer insights on what steps you may need to take to land that dream role.
