This production will be a full "Broadway-style" presentation, with wigs designed by Charles LaPointe. It promises to be sensational. Frozen replaces Aladdin—which closed in the same theatre after an impressive 13-year run. A production of Frozen is slated to join Aladdin and The Lion King on Broadway in spring 2018, after an out-of-town tryout at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in summer 2017. At this time, everything is being kept under wraps, so more info (and photos) to come … Construction has begun on the new "Star Wars Land" in Disneyland, the largest single expansion (14 acres) since the original park opened in 1955. This new Land will feature at least two new attractions, and a host of Star Wars characters in the new dining, merchandising and entertainment venues. Lots of future work for our Theme Park members. In the meantime, the projected five-year construction project has closed 10 other attractions… Local 706 will be one of the Host Locals for the IATSE Midsummer Meeting of the National General Executive Board (and Stage Caucus) at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco July 18–22. Our members from both Northern and Southern California will be assist- ing with the inner workings of the session. Local 706 is currently in active negotiations with Center Theatre Group (Ahmanson Theatre and Mark Taper Forum); both our LA Philharmonic (Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl) and LA Music Center contracts "piggyback" on top of the CTG Agreement. We are also negotiating with San Francisco Ballet and our first-ever contract with the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego (Regional Theater), FOX NE&O (Networks, Engineering & Operations)—this is one of two Broadcast Television agreements with FOX, and primarily covers the FOX Sports productions) and KTLA (Broadcast Television). Our agree- ments with Pasadena Playhouse (Theater), San Diego Opera and Cal Performances/Zellerbach Hall (Regional Theater), and CBS (Broadcast Television—which includes KCAL & KCBS News) will be negotiated before the end of the year.
