Spring 2016 | WEAnews 4 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Kathy Vetter WEA President kvetter@wyoea.org As you start thinking about your upcoming summer activities, please consider giving some time to be part of your local's Candidate Interview Team. We need your voice in the endorsement process to ensure that we have education- supportive people elected to the Wyoming House and Senate. We rely on our local members, with the help of their Uniserv Directors, to interview candidates who are running for the Wyoming legislature and to make recommendations for endorsements to the WEA- PACE Council. The WEA-PACE Council considers all of your recommendations and votes for endorsements in both the primary and general elections. Without the local interview, the recommendation process cannot happen; therefore it is important that you, our members, step up and get involved in the process. You are the first step in endorsing and electing pro-education candidates to the Wyoming legislature—our students and members are counting on you! It is also important for you to be part of the Legislative Contact Team because those who serve in the legislature make decisions that impact almost everything that happens in our schools. It impacts everything from class size, accountability, assessment, and funding, just to name a few. Having pro-education members in the Wyoming legislature is important to the future of our schools. Before everyone rushes out the school doors for summer break, you may want to consider making plans for your back-to-school membership events. It may seem too early to think about next year's membership activities, but if you start your planning now before people are out of town on vacation, it makes finalizing the details before school starts in August a lot easier. You may want to have someone in charge of welcoming new staff members to your district before school officially starts, maybe even consider a welcome basket from your local. As you get the dates set for your end-of-the-school- year activities and beginning- of-the-school-year activities, please consider inviting me to your events. You can email me at kvetter@wyoea.org, and I am happy to attend as many events as I can fit in my schedule. Spring is here, the days are getting longer, the tulips are starting to bloom, and the end of the school year is in sight.
