SPRING 2016 | ADVOCATE 17 Around AEA The Flagstaff Education Association (FEA), Arizona Education Association (AEA), and National Education Association (NEA) started a new NEA Student chapter at Northern Arizona University (NAU). On January 27, 2016, NEA Student Program Chair Chelsey Herrig, FEA President Derek Born, AEA General Counsel Samantha Blevins, AEA Organizational Consultant Matt Nichols, and NEA Student Organizing Manager Martí Garza spoke with over 300 NAU education students about the benefits of belonging to their professional association. NAU College of Education Professors Gerald Wood and Sarah Fix will serve as faculty advisors to the new NEA Student Program chapter at NAU, which includes satellite campuses across the state. AEA General Counsel also presented to students at campuses in Chandler and Deer Valley on professionalism and dos and don'ts of social media. The kick off for the student chapter at NAU follows a membership event at Arizona State University, which recently started its own NEA Student Program chapter and signed up over 400 members. Read about ASU student members helping out at the NEA's Read Across America event on page 13. For more information about the NEA Student Program, visit nea. org/student-program.
