SPRING 2016 | ADVOCATE 37 Teacher Opportunities TEACHER DEVELOPMENT GRANTS Do you have an idea for changing K-12 instruction? Consider applying for a Teacher Development Grant from the McCarthey-Dressman Foundation. Small teams of teachers can apply for grants to form and implement "groundbreaking K-12 classroom instruction" programs. These grants are available to help teachers integrate new ideas for encouraging critical inquiry and gather the results to share with the community. Grants are available up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of $30,000 over three years. Apply online at mccartheydressman. org/teacher-development-grants by April 15, 2016. KABOOM! GRANTS One of the biggest challenges many communities face in their efforts to prioritize play is fundraising. That's why KaBOOM! offers grant opportunities to help communities take bold steps toward beginning or completing playspace projects. Applications for Let's Play Imagination Playground Grants and Let's Play Rigamajig Grants are accepted on a rolling basis with deadlines at the end of each month. Applications for Build it with KaBOOM! Grants are accepted on an ongoing basis and approximately 175 – 200 nonprofi ts and municipalities are awarded annually as funding becomes available. KaBOOM! grant programs include: • Build it with KaBOOM! – Bring outdoor play to your community by working with KaBOOM! and our corporate partners. • Build it Yourself – Kick-off a new, self-guided playground project with $15,000 to be used toward playground equipment. • Creative Play Grants – With their custom built loose parts, Imagination Playground and Rigamajig encourage creativity, communication, and collaboration in play. Learn more about all of these programs at www.kaboom.org/ grants ELEMENTARY DRAMA GRANTS Each year, the Charlie Lovett Fund for Elementary Drama provides grants to elementary schools across the U.S. These grants are designed to help elementary schools enhance or establish a production-based drama learning program at the school. Grants can also be used for the school's drama productions. Grants are available up to $300. Apply online at lovettfoundation.org/mainpages/foundation/Lovettt%20Fund. html. NASET OUTSTANDING SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AWARDS Each year, the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) recognizes an educator who has "demonstrated outstanding achievement in the fi eld of special education." Educators must by nominated by their school, district, a colleague, or parent of a student, and nominees must be in their third year of teaching. Candidates are judged in three areas: teaching, service, and professional activities. Apply online at www.naset.org/specialeducationteac.0.html by May 1, 2016. ROOTS & SHOOTS COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN MINI-GRANTS Know a teacher or group leader in the U.S. who could use a mini-grant for their service campaign? Roots & Shoots is giving away more than $50,000 in mini-grants this year! Mini-grants are awarded in a $200 VISA giftcard. Learn more at www. rootsandshoots.org/minigrant. EPA ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION GRANTS Under the Environmental Education Grants Program, the EPA supports environmental education projects that promote environmental awareness and stewardship and help provide people with the skills to take responsible actions to protect the environment. For this current grant cycle, EPA expects to award approximately 30 grants nationwide, each with a maximum award of $91,000. Applicants must represent one of the following types of organizations to be eligible for an environmental education grant: local education agency; state education or environmental agency; college or university; non-profi t organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; noncommercial educational broadcasting; or entity tribal education agency (which includes schools and community colleges controlled by an Indian tribe, band, or nation). Applicant organizations must be located in the United States or territories and the majority of the educational activities must take place in the United States; or in the United States and Canada or Mexico; or in the U.S. Territories.
