36 ADVOCATE | SPRING 2016 Association Governance REPORT Based upon the January 15, 2016, membership fi gures, the AEA has 14,806 active members. The average number of members per regional director is 871. The AEA has 13 regions and 17 regional directors. There are 24 members on the AEA Board of Directors, which includes 3 state offi cers, 1 NEA State Director, 1 Retired Director, and 2 Education Support Professional At-large Directors. The NEA requires that all voting members of the AEA Board of Direc- tors comply with the principle of one person-one vote. The AEA Board of Directors uses a weighted vote which complies with the principle of one person-one vote. Each Regional Di- rector has a vote equal to the percent- age of deviation from the average of 871 members for that region. Direc- tors elected at-large have a weighted vote of 100. The weighted vote of each regional director has been adjusted to refl ect the January 15, 2016 membership fi gures.
