THE MESSAGE Brief Encounters Whether THE TASTING PANEL goes to the brand execs or the brands call us, there is an abundance of news to report, from the latest releases to behind-the-scenes experiences with some of the world's most influential importers, winemakers, distillers . . . well, you name it. We may not have enough pages in each issue to devote as much attention as we would like to each person whose path we cross, but please note that if it's in the publication, we deem it noteworthy. —Meridith May, Publisher & Editorial Director A Wednesday night at 6 p.m. might seem like an unusual time for an adventure, but for those of us gathered in Los Angeles, it was just the beginning of a wonderful voyage. We had come together with Pernod Absinthe Brand Ambassador Joshua Lucas to travel to three different bars, try- ing cocktails featuring Pernod Absinthe. Our first stop, the dark and romantic Normandie Club, tucked away in Koreatown, featured The Loudest Sound, a cocktail of Pernod Absinthe, Absolut Elyx, dry vermouth, clarified blood orange juice and citric acid solution. We then caravanned over to Resident, the new bar/live music venue in Downtown's Art District that opened in December of this past year. There we sat outside in their spacious backyard and munched on upscale street food, like short rib fries and steak chimichurri bowls and sipped on Red Velvets, a delicious concoction made with Pernod Absinthe, gin, Liquid Alchemist grenadine and fresh lemon juice. Our last stop on our voyage was Downtown's hot spot, restaurant Faith & Flower. We were wowed by a meringue Baked Alaska lit on fire at our table, which paired perfectly with the Reveille Frappé, a perfect dessert cocktail with Pernod Absinthe, cold brew coffee, water and simple syrup. —Jesse Hom-Dawson Chasing the Green Dragon with Pernod Absinthe 16  /  the tasting panel  /  march 2016 The Red Velvet cocktail from Resident in L.A.'s downtown Arts District. in Los Angeles, it was just the beginning of a wonderful voyage.
