Lisa Buccigrosse, Rosa Maria Cordova, Vicky Mead, and Allyssa Tattrie presented the English Language Learners: Culture, Equity & Language Training Module for closing the achievement gap. The training was developed from the work of researchers and practitioners who had been successful in supporting the academic success of English language learners. In this workshop, trainers wanted to change the way teachers view diverse students and the students in their classrooms who may be struggling to be successful from looking at their students as culturally and linguistically deprived to looking at them as culturally and linguistically enriched, viewing their language learning of English as an asset, something valuable in their classrooms. Diane Drazinski and Lori Miner presented an interactive training on Bullying & Sexual Harassment Prevention & Intervention, which provided participants with information and resources to identify and prevent bullying in the classroom. During lunchtime, attendees were treated to a professional dress fashion show. Models presented professional clothing that are fash- ionable and appropriate for working with students. Marshalls provided clothing for the presentation. The event was sponsored by the AEA Foundation for Teaching & Learning, MetLife, NEA Member Benefits, ASU Online, Marshalls, Cartwright EA, Creighton EA, Mesa EA, Phoenix Elementary CTA, and Washington District EA. The AEA Priority Learning Training Network is available to provide on-site professional development to support and assist tier-3 schools achieve school improvement.
