Participants brainstorm together in groups in the Response to Intervention training. Participants discuss examples of sexual harassment in the bullying prevention training. evaluation strate- gies in one of the sessions offered, where participants received informa- tion on the Arizona Framework for Teacher and Principal Evaluation and the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC). The session, conducted by Rae Ann Rumery, Nancy Feiring, and Anna Montalbo, examined different evaluation systems and the purpose of teacher evaluation. Participants in the "I Can Do It" training learned about effective classroom manage- ment techniques. The training was conducted by Stefani Jenkins, Darlene Roach, and Tina Torrez. Deb Larned helped prepare the training but was unable to present the day of training due to illness. The goal of the Lesson Planning session was to assist all teachers in becoming effective teachers through lesson planning. Participants 20 Winter 2011/12 ❘ AEA Advocate learned how to create many different lesson plans based on different formats following Arizona Department of Education standards. Robin Crow, Susan Hinds, and Lisa Prillaman trained this session. A professional learning community is a pro- cess, or way of working together, which results in continuous improvement in student learning and teacher efficacy. This training conducted by Colleen Brakenridge, Cheryl Redfield, and Lise Spangenthal examined the practices of profes- sional learning communities as a means to assist teachers in improving student achievement and school performance. The Response to Intervention session pro- vided participants information on the practice of providing high-quality instruction/interven- tion matched to student needs and using learn- ing rate over time and level of performance to inform educational decisions. The session was trained by Kendra Rubalcaba, Sharla Labelle, and Rebecca Willey. Josylyn Brown and Lori Fox trained partici- pants on Classroom Preparation in a jungle- themed session that provided tips and ideas for new teachers on surviving their first year in the classroom.
