VOICE YOUR VIEWS AEA Wins Injunction Against Educator Gag Bill Below are member responses to AEA's legal victory over SB 1365. Read the whole story on page 16. Well done AEA President Andrew Morrill and the AEA. The legislators may or may not include all unions in their next try to regulate how people spend their monies. This victory shows that some people can't just silence people's voices because of a difference in philosophies. Again, thanks for protecting our rights. Colin Cole, Pinon CTA member Thank you so much, for all you and the AEA team do for all Arizona educators. Terry Ballard, Cartwright EA member Way to go AEA, and all those who fought to have this heard in the courts! Thank you for all you do. Nancy Maccarone, Glendale Elementary EA Vice-President Thank you so very much for YOUR work on this fight with the legislature to keep teachers' rights! Gina Morgan, Scottsdale EA member When my Union does something RIGHT, it deserves credit and praise, so CONGRATULATIONS to the AEA, its legal counsel, and all organizers for the work put forth on this case! AEA President Andrew Morrill and the entire organization deserve our gratitude ... as members AND as CITIZENS of the Republic! HOOOOOrah!!! Semper Fi !!! Tom Carey, Scottsdale EA member MEMBER TALK MEMBER TALK MEMBER TALK MEMBER TALK This might be seen as a temporary "victory;" however, by the very fact that AEA has already changed its method of dues collection, despite the lawsuit, those who are working to force this upon us have already won. If we are giving them exactly what they wanted anyway, what is the purpose of the fight? It seems the "victory" would have been to continue to have members utilize payroll deduc- tion – as we've always done. That action would have sent the message that they could not stop the Association/Unions while we carried on the legal battle to prove it. Lu Ann Kenner, Tempe Secondary EA member This victory means that the legislators can't quiet our voices by singling out educators (rather than all public employees) to have dues and politi- cal action donations taken out of our voice. However, AEA will continue to do an alternative method, because if we went back to payroll deduction, it would be just a matter of time before they do it for all public employee unions (police, fire, etc).
