On Friday, August 29, at the opening night soiree, the Times hosts gathered with L.A.'s most beloved chefs and industry personalities for an evening that paired mouth-watering food and libations with a touch of Hollywood glamour. While revelers feasted on crispy halibut tacos from The Church Key, miso donuts from Hinoki & The Bird and many more delectable dishes, cover band Black Crystal Wolf Kids energized the audience with their own inspired takes on indie rock classics. The culinary bliss continued the following day as James Beard–award winning chef Nancy Silverton (Osteria Mozza) spotlighted seasonal, locally- sourced ingredients and their expressions on the plate for the local favorite Field to Fork event. As the sun began to set over the historic studio, Dinner with a Twist paid tribute to L.A.'s ever- changing and innovative culinary and cocktail cultures. Master bartender Julian Cox treated guests to a feast for the senses from octopus with lentils courtesy of Chef Steven Samson at Sotto to VEEV cocktails from Soho House's James Bowers. Closing out the festival, the Flavors of L.A. event treated crowds to savored bites that reflected the breadth of cuisines within the L.A dining scene, and Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold led a thought- provoking panel that delved into the art of foraging with chefs Ari Taymor (Alma), Wes Avila (Guerrilla Tacos) and wild food expert Pascal Baudar. By Monday morning, The Taste demonstrated, yet again, why Los Angeles's culinary landscape is so well respected and renowned. Constant innova- tion and a tight-knit community keep this diverse city at the forefront of the restaurant industry, proving that they can handle the heat, both in and out of the kitchen.
