5 I AM THRILLED TO WELCOME YOU to a most unusual but nonetheless celebratory 25th anniversary of the Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards. A er what has been a challenging and stressful year in the entertainment industry and the world, what wonderful satisfaction to enjoy a festive evening honoring the achievements this year in narrative design, as well as the resilience of our members. Tonight's virtual event celebrates professional excellence by narrative designers of lm, television, streaming, commercials, and other forms of media. e almost-3,000-member-strong Art Directors Guild is comprised of four major cra areas, encompassing varied skills, including: Scenic, Title, & Graphic Art; Set Design & Model Making; Illustration & Matte Artists; and Art Direction & Production Design. Lifetime Achievement Award honorees have been selected from each of these four Cra Councils. is evening, we are pleased to celebrate the work of this year's recipients: Scenic Artist Patrick DeGreve, Set Designer Martha Johnston, Illustrator John Eaves, and Production Designer Stuart Wurtzel. A highlight of this year's festivities will be the presentation of the esteemed Cinematic Imagery Award to the proli c, award-winning producer/writer/director Ryan Murphy, whose vast imprint on the entertainment world through a wide range of groundbreaking projects has and continues to include a signi cant emphasis on Production Design. e Cinemagundi, our beautiful ADG trophy, takes its name from the club formed in 1924 by 63 Hollywood Art Directors, and through time evolved into the Art Directors Guild. ese member-designed crystal creations will nd a new home with tonight's honorees. We are blessed to be a part of an amazing, exciting, and evolving profession in which we express our creativity and talents. What a wonderful occasion to celebrate incredible artists and storytellers. During this evening's festivities, I hope you discover new facets of narrative design and get to learn about many of the great visual storytellers who make the ADG the unique organization that has changed the way people have told and viewed stories for nearly 100 years. Congratulations to all of this year's nominees and honorees. Here's to many more years of delighting the eyes of moviegoers the world over and serving to inform and amplify the stories of a generation of lmmakers.
