R O C K E T M A N | P E R S P E C T I V E 6 7 The Rocketman script came to me out of the blue, which is always the best way. It was such an exciting project to have the opportunity to work on. I was invited to meet director Dexter Fletcher and discuss his vision for the film; we hit it off straight away, although it would be difficult not to get on with Dexter as he has such boundless enthusiasm, energy and charm. As he described his vision, it was not to be a conventional musical biopic, but an extravagant reflection on Elton's early life and career, woven together by his iconic songs. Complete historical accuracy was put aside in favor of creating a more magical and exuberant world. After all, the structure of the script revolved around Elton's own interpretation of his life as he recounts his experiences to a therapy group. The design process for me always starts with understanding the script in detail. From here, I can start the part I really enjoy, gathering as much reference material as possible from all different sources. This to me is the start of the creative process and from here, I build the look and style A. REGGIE REVISITING HIS CHILDHOOD HOME. ILLUSTRATION. B. LOCATION FOR REGGIE'S CHILDHOOD HOME. PINNER, LONDON.
