R A M B O : L A S T B L O O D | P E R S P E C T I V E 1 0 1 Arizona and Spain for Mexico. How these decisions get made often involve a matrix of factors. I will try to focus on just a few here. First, I will start with story, a very good place to start. In Rambo (2008), the final shot was an extremely long take of John Rambo, the lone warrior, walking on a solitary road home. He stops at a decrepit mailbox which has the letters "R. Rambo" fading on its weathered surface. John Rambo pauses as the camera tilts to see the Rambo family farm a mile down a long dirt road. Horses feed peacefully in the fields as a gentle wind blows dust from the footsteps of our tired hero. The credits roll as the figure of Rambo walks away from the camera and diminishes in size down the long stretch and into the vanishing point of the frame. A simple, silent yet layered bit of narrative, rich with visual story. This moment alone not only served in its economy as the efficient conclusion of a brutal story focused on thirty years of genocide in Burma, but also as the genesis to a new chapter in the saga. A.
