DGA Events Roundup Eastern Region Special Projects Documentary Series Screens Erik Nelson's The Cold Blue During WWII, DGA and Oscar-winning Director William Wyler went to Europe to capture the air war in progress and flew on actual combat missions. Director Erik Nelson's The Cold Blue uses newly restored 4K footage from Wyler's work and narration from some of the last surviving B-17 pilots to make both a tribute to one of the world's great filmmakers and the men of the Eighth Air Force. The Cold Blue premiered at AFI Docs and screened at the New York Film Festival. Following the DGA Eastern Region Special Projects Committee's Documentary Series screening in New York on June 13, Nelson discussed the making of the film in a conversation moderated by Director Sandra Luckow. Nelson's other credits include the documentary features A Gray State, Dinotasia and Dreams with Sharp Teeth; and episodes of Pearl Harbor Declassified and Secrets and Mysteries He has been a DGA member since 1984. Wilde's film tells the story of best friends Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein), two academic superstars who've spent their teenage years keeping their noses to the grindstone. But on the eve of their graduation, they suddenly realize that they may have missed out on some special moments and decide to make up for lost time and cram four years of fun into one night. Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on June 2, Wilde sat down with Director Nicole Holofcener to discuss the making of Booksmart. Booksmart is Wilde's feature directorial debut. Her other directorial credits include music videos for Red Hot Chili Peppers and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and the short film Free Hugs. She became a DGA member in 2018.
