I was a die-hard Marvel Comics fan, reading everything from Iron Man, West Coast Avengers, The Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, Excalibur, to Spider-Man (The Amazing, The Spectacular, Web of, AND the adjective-less Todd McFarlane one). I dabbled a bit in the DC world, but it was Marvel Comics that truly captured my imagination. In the summer of 1994, right before my sophomore year of UCLA, I went to the acclaimed San Diego Comic-Con. With my portfolio in hand, consisting of about six 11x17 comic book penciling samples, I waited in the long portfolio lines for each of the major companies. The first line I waited in was my dream company, Image Comics. Image was the new hot company at that time. I waited for hours before finally standing in front of one of the co- founders (and creator of Deadpool), Rob Liefeld. He took a look at my portfolio and asked if I would be interested in an internship with his then Extreme Studios. Would I?? I was flabbergasted. A.
