IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - EVENTS In June at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 18, CD Greg LaVoi is premiering his play, I Died Today, based on his personal experiences. LaVoi states this piece was written as an exercise in recovery. LaVoi suffered pulmonary embolisms in 2017 following simple knee surgery. DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and PE (pulmonary embolisms) kill more Americans annually than breast cancer, traffic accidents, and HIV combined. The play was created so LaVoi could figure out what happened to him rather than asking, "Why me?" He changes the perspective into an empowering query: "What was I supposed to learn from this?" In addition to producing and directing, LaVoi is designing the costumes. I Died Today will be presented at The Actors Company, Let Live Theater (no pun intended). CD Jean-Pierre Dorléac spoke at the LACMA Style Council Meeting upon the occasion of donating two dresses to the museum's permanent collection (an original 1921 runway Lanvin "robe de style" gown in coral and a 1910 Doucet peignoir). Dorléac enchanted the audience with stories of his illustrious career and signed copies of his first book, The Naked Truth. In one remarkable story about his childhood, he explained how his German nanny taught him to darn, sew, crochet, and bead when he expressed an early curiosity. In another, he mentioned Edith Head wrote a glowing introductory letter for him when he first came to Los Angeles (who knew she ever did that?). Dorléac recently completed another book, a mystery, due out later this year. CD Jean-Pierre Dorléac and his Lanvin gown at LACMA
