66 The Costume Designer Spring 2018 IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - EVENTS A marvelous sculpture of the CDG's logo has been designed and created by the dynamic CD Francine Lecoultre. On hand to assist with the endeavor were Vanessa Gonzalez, Carolina Glover, and Carolyn Mazuca. Lecoultre shares the evolution of this magnificent piece, "The first crystal sculpture was created for the occasion of the CDG Christmas Party in December 2017. With the 20th anniversary of CDG Awards in the background, the idea was to create a life-size sculpture of the iconic statuette, designed by illustrator David LeVey 20 years ago. The challenge was to stay true to the original concept and sketch within the constraints of a spontaneous art project originally meant for a one-night event. Shapes and lines meld into long ribbon, embellished with chunky cosmic silver crystals. The visual language was sparkly, fun and luminescent and enhanced by LED lights. Our little artistic group met at my loft at The Brewery Arts Complex and patiently crafted, embellished the sculptural object, and slowly transformed the work into an elegant piece of art. The final ribbon at top, created from a curved aluminum sheet, became the perfect accent in celebration of excellence in Costume Design." ACD Tammy Williamson is proud to announce the newly launched, worldwide, shared database for costume professionals, a network and ultimate headquarters for sourcing costumes, CostumeHQ. net. Williamson says, "This is what would happen if Shopping LA and Yelp had a love child. Remember Shopping LA? The guide for costume professionals, we all had one under our car seat with our Thomas Guide." Community members are encouraged to help build the shared experience by leaving a review, or letting others know what their favorite vendors have to offer. As more community members participate, together they will build an amazing worldwide database. CostumeHQ.net CD Marcy Froehlich was the keynote speaker for the opening of a new exhibit "Costuming the Leading Ladies of Shakespeare: from Strat- ford to Orange County" at the UC Irvine Langson Library on April 5th to a standing room only crowd. She was also interviewed on OC Talk Radio (online) on Friday, April 20th about the exhibit and what it means to be a Costume Designer. The LA Times Daily Pilot (April 12, 2018, by Kathleen Luppi) said, " Froehlich continues to tell a story through the medium of clothing by defining a character and creating a believ- able world for the actor and audience." Froehlich says, "As designers, we always try to find the balance between the words and spectacle." ILL Aasha Ramdeen has added a lovely twist to her repertoire by offering weddings, brides, and couples portraits in illustration. Ramdeen was introduced to bridal by our very own ILL Gina DeDomenico Flanagan and fell in love with the style immediately. She knew that it was something she wanted to commit to and created an Etsy shop soon after based almost entirely on wedding illustration. Ramdeen says, "A bride wants to look like a princess on her special day and the illustration itself is no different. It is an imaginary representation of her and her dress. My clients come to me because they want the fantasy that only an illustration can lend itself to. They want the exaggerated proportions and the spontaneous watercolor brush strokes. A painted portrait has imaginary qualities that simply cannot be captured through a camera lens."
