A hair stylist's path to FROM CHEMICAL TO ECOLOGICAL: organic Color H air Stylist Joanna Locke Dobson has been inspired by beauty from a young age. She is one of four sisters, all of whom have their own unique beauty and styles. Dobson graduated from cosmetology school in 1991; she went on to train with one of the top European hair stylists, Eli Alexander, in Orange County where she qualified to be an expert colorist and stylist. "I had the honor of working with the best in our industry. Along the way I started to question the ingredients in products. It is overwhelming when you look at the back of a box of hair products and are staring at the ingredients." "My main objective is informing people about how to reclaim health and vitality through the power of knowledge." Dobson suggests the first step is to question the quality and ingredients of the hair products you are using on a daily basis because some can have a chemical base. " I want people to know that not everyone is the same. Some products can cause allergies, asthma, and can irritate the skin and scalp. I want people to come on this journey and get educated about what's going on with the environment and how products affect our health and our planet." She continues, "I have had the pleasure of meeting Vince Spinnato, a top chemist, who has recently created a line for women who have thinning hair-- "Anagen RX". As a consultant, he has worked with many celebrities, creating products. "I am looking forward to future projects that Vince and I will create together-- to figure out what the consumer wants and needs. My dream is to become an organic Entrepreneur. I want to be at the forefront of the Ecological hair care industry. I have been researching hair products for years. Just look at sulfates that have been brought to our attention in the last few years. They are a derivative of something used to clean car engines. I really want to help educate my industry and the consumer." Dobson Currently works in Dana Point. She wants to continue this dialogue on greening the hair-care industry with other hair stylists locally and internationally. She would like feedback on products you are using--organic, natural or chemical based and what effects, positive or negative, they have on your hair, body and your state of health.
