LIVEMAGS.NET MARCH>>10 31 solid as his vocals are smooth. But if you're looking for something new to the R&B world, Another Round isn't it. Beautiful songs pepper Another Round like "Closer" and "In My Hands," but there are a few misses too. One in particular is the bonus track "In the Dark." Hint: It's not bonus worthy. While still keeping his rough around the edges exterior, Jaheim's soulful sound may come as a surprise to some. But to Jaheim fans, he brings exactly what they'd expect, Another Round of a CD packed with the sexy sounds of love. Artist: Sade Album: Soldier of Love Release Date: 2/9/10 Genre: R&B/Soul It has been almost ten years, but Sade sounds better than ever on her sixth album, Solider of Love. Sade's silky voice croons romantic lyrics and that jazzy sound mature R&B lovers have been missing. The title song, "Soldier of Love" reminds you of Sade from the past but with heavy drums that enhance the melody. It's truly beautiful and completely fitting for Sade who has always been a soldier. "Long Hard Road," "Bring Me Home," and "In Another Time" are also outstanding songs on this CD that is filled with stand-outs. The wait for Soldier of Love was worth it. Welcome back Sade. Artist: Rocket Summer Album: Of Men & Angels Release Date: 2/23/10 Genre: Alternative Rock The Rocket Summer has been in the music scene for a couple of years, playing at many Warped Tours and other concerts. Bryce Avery is the mastermind behind the band, taking many of the roles and writing his own songs. The Rocket Summer has always had an anthem-like power punk sound to it, and the latest album Of Men and Angels does not fall short of expectations. It is sure to be played on repeat on many teen's iPods and stereos. "I Want Something To Live For" is particularly inspiring, especially since most songs are autobiographical. The Rocket Summer is also known for their support of To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit organization geared toward raising awareness of self-injury and suicide. Artist: Alkaline Trio Album: This Addiction Release Date: 2/23/10 Genre: Alternative Rock Perhaps the greatest part of This Addiction is the inclusion of several acoustic songs on the Deluxe Edition. Like many of Alkaline Trio's past songs, this album has lyrics that can be construed as sad, but the music tends to be of the more upbeat nature. This has always been a melodic and interesting combination. This Addiction is not without songs geared toward more "head-banging" type of music that makes listeners want to get up and rage. This Addiction is the band's 7th album and has a more mature sound that is sure to satisfy dedicated fans. Artist: Johnny Cash Album: American VI - Ain't No Grave Release Date: 2/23/10 Genre: Country/Pop Johnny Cash is classic America. Whenever his music is heard, it seems that everyone joins together in this experience. Years after his death, a new compilation CD has been released. It's been much anticipated. This album is the final chapter of American Recordings, created by Cash and Rick Rubins. His crooning voice seemed to keep its signature sound throughout his lifetime, however the tone seems to be sadder and less inspiring than his albums from the height of his career. Cash will always be a legend though, as countless bands including Bad Religion remake his legendary songs. Title: Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven Author: Susan Jane Gilman Genre: Memoir Release (paperback): 2/8/10 Gilman leaves out nothing in this shrewd neurotic account of her earlier self as a naïve college grad traipsing though Communist China. In cahoots with her co-patriot feminist buddy, things quickly turn insane. Sickness ensues, language is a barrier and danger lurks everywhere. Gilman has an amazing steel-trap photographic memory and she took impeccable notes when she was 21. She also fills in the inevitable cracks of memory with her brilliant and wisecrack commentary of the dialogue and absurd facts she encountered during her deranged adventure when she backpacked through 1986 China. Hilarious and strange – this true tale is awesome. Title: The Things That Keep Us Here Author: Carla Buckley Release Date: 2/9/10 The scariest books are the ones that show us our own possible realities. When a pandemic of H5N1 – better known as Avian Flu – sweeps the entire planet, chaos ensues. As the virus wipes out half of the human population, a small family fights for their own survival. Peter and Ann Brooks are thrown back together in the midst of their divorce in an effort to protect their two young daughters Kate and Maddie. Dealing with skyrocketing gas prices, severe food shortages, and a massive storm that takes out the electricity for an extended period, the Brooks realize the power of family togetherness and solidarity. MUSIC&MEDIAREVIEW WRITERS>>TOVA MORRISON, TYLER ANDREWS, DANIEL ALBERT, ALI LERMAN, CYNTHIA RYAN, ERIC PARK BOOKS DVDS Movie: Zombieland Release Date: 2/2/10 Genre: Horror/Comedy Zombieland might sound like a scary title but as soon as you start this movie, you'll find yourself laughing. Yes, there is blood and plenty of zombie killing, but the path the last four remaining humans (post-apocalyptic) take, is completely hilarious. Woody Harrelson (as Tallahassee) and Jesse Eisenberg (as Columbus) steal all scenes as an unlikely dream-duo of awesomeness. The rest of the four- part Zombieland cast (other than those pesky zombies) Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are good but are nothing compared to Woody's killer performance. Pun intended. With a Bill Murray cameo and rocking music, Zombieland is a movie that is good from beginning to end! Finally!! Movie: A Serious Man Release date: 2/9/10 Genre: Dark Comedy Cinematically going back in time to their home turf, Joel and Ethan Coen set this story in the suburban mid-west in1967. The bros do what they do best by throwing atypical characters together during periods of duress. We are introduced to Jewish Physics Professor Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg) when, as his marriage dissolves, his 12-year-old son smokes pot and his brother crashes on his couch. In the bonus features, the Coens talk about saturating the scenes with Jewish arcana, and transforming a Minneapolis neighborhood. "Hebrew and Yiddish for Goys" is a review of definitions that pop up when characters speak Hebrew. Movie: Casablanca (Blu-ray) Release Date: 2/2/10 Genre: Classics/Drama In almost 70 years since its original release in 1942, CASABLANCA shines again in blu-ray with its crispy and clear vision. The romantic couple of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman have never looked better! The black and white 1080p picture shows details so remarkably that you could easily be mesmerized by the beautiful smile of the Swedish actress. However, the audio with dolby digital mono is rather disappointing: dialogue and sound is weak with no depth. Why not in lossless audio format? That's questionable. All in all, this single disc edition of the classic is worth getting and much more affordable to own than the 2-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition released back in December, 2008. Artist: Jaheim Album: Another Round Release Date: 2/8/10 Genre: R&B Jaheim's new release Another Round is as lyrically MUSIC
