34 LIVEMAGS.NET MARCH>>10 The name Neon Trees brings to mind an image of a forest full of bright and in-your-face trees resembling something that could be found in Alice in Wonderland. Like this imagery, this band's music is full of bright, melodic sounds mixed with an organic old-school rock vibe. They've been compared to Death Cab for Cutie and The Cure, but with a little bit of The Strokes thrown in there. Their most popular song is "Animal," which is one part dance floor music and one part head-banging good. Neon Trees musicians are: Tyler Glen, lead vocals and keyboards; Chris Allen, guitarist; Branden Campbell, bass; and Elaine Bradley, drums and vocals. It's not often that a big band has a girl drummer, but Bradley will not let fans down. Neon Trees does not seem to be selling out their sound anytime soon, claiming their goal has always been the same--to give listeners a larger-than-life feel. Each song differs-- unlike many bands that have one sound that they stick to--Neon Trees does not have a formula. Most of their songs are anthems of teenage angst and love. The band members' passion for their music is evident in the sound that comes out of the speakers. Neon Tree's debut album, Habits, is due for release March 16 and they go on tour in April. Traditionally, the name Agnes brings to mind images of an adorably small old lady holding a tray of cookies. Agnes Carlsson will blow this image out of your mind. Young and energetic, Agnes' album, Dance Love Pop, is reminiscent of nineties club music. Dancing along, this pop music first hit shelves in Europe and is making its way to North America. Agnes was the Swedish Idol winner in 2005 at the age of 17, and has become one of Europe's most popular and best-selling female singers. She was launched internationally in 2009, with her hit single "Release Me" being released in 35 countries. Agnes' voice is powerful and captivating to listen, with music sounding reminiscent of Cher. At only 20 years of age, Agnes, with a sweet disposition and striking good looks, collaborated with Anders Hansson from Sweden to mix this electronic sounding soul music. Agnes appears to be the type of person who has big dreams and the drive to achieve those dreams while still having fun and enjoying life. Her music is inspiring and it's nice to see the good bits of 90s music coming back so soon. Check out Agnes's music at www.myspace.com/ agnescarlsson. Becca seems to be a member of the new generation of Gwen Stefani- and Pink-inspired rocker chicks. She was discovered by Meredith Brooks and is a multi-media star in Japan. All this and she was still a teenager! Now, Becca's about to be unleashed on the American scene with her debut album ALIVE! Like the rocker chicks who've come before her, Becca's album is chock full of female empowering songs coupled with some power ballads. At 20, her dreams are becoming a reality. Becca began singing before she learned to walk and has been playing guitar since she was 10. At 14, Becca wrote songs with Brooks. Currently, Becca appears to have a "go-for-it" philosophy that can be seen in everything she does. The sleeve illustrations of her debut album feature her own comic book character Lady B. Story, which is quite a cute idea! Lady B. Story chronicles Becca's current happenings, including her debut in the American music industry. Becca's hit song is I'm ALIVE! It won't be long until it will be blaring from every teen girl's speakers, and guiltily listened to by the older female generation.
